Pumping Power in France: How a Steel Mill Runs 24/7

Project Overview

In the sunny south of France, a major steel mill relies on a hydraulically powered production system using a special mixture composed of 95% water and 5% Petrofer lubricant. To ensure maximum reliability and performance in their continuous-duty operations, the mill selected the Pentax HPR 50.4/14R pump, paired with a 200 kW motor at 2950 rpm.

The Challenge

The mill’s unique hydraulic system required a pump capable of handling a demanding working point of 51 m³/h at 714 meters manometric pressure, operating non-stop without interruptions. Beyond performance, the system needed to ensure operational safety, efficiency, and durability under constant, high-pressure conditions.

Our Solution — Series Pumps Foras HPR

To meet these strict requirements, we supplied the Foras HPR 50.4/14R pump, a part of the trusted Foras HPR series. Known for its strength in continuous high-pressure applications, this model includes:

  • Oil-lubricated bearings for extended lifespan

  • Balanced mechanical seal for reliable, leak-free operation

  • PT100 oil temperature sensor for real-time thermal monitoring

  • High-efficiency IE3 motor, reducing energy costs and environmental impact

The HPR series is specifically designed for continuous-duty hydraulic systems, making it the perfect fit for the steel mill’s needs.

Results

Since installation, the Pentax HPR 50.4/14R pump has delivered outstanding, reliable performance in the mill’s demanding environment. It operates 24/7 without interruption, efficiently managing the water-Petrofer mixture while maintaining consistent hydraulic pressure. The combination of precision engineering and rugged durability has improved the mill’s operational stability and reduced maintenance downtime.
