The organization of water supply and wastewater disposal in private homes and facilities not connected to the centralized network requires the right approach to the selection of equipment. Pentax S.p.A. offers more than 1000 water pump models with trademark FORAS for water pumping with different technical possibilities and design features. The devices are able to work with clean and dirty media with a certain amount of solid inclusions. According to the method of installation, pumps are divided into submersible and surface pumps.
Scope of application
Water pumps are used in different areas of economic activity:
in construction;
in mining and processing industries;
In agricultural enterprises and small farms;
In housing and communal services;
In private country houses, etc.
Surface pumps
The devices are used for pumping water from open sources: reservoirs and ponds. The pump is installed on the edge of the well on a special platform, the suction hose goes down. The design can be attached permanently for permanent use or remain portable. The pump draws in water but does not come into direct contact with it. This reduces the insulation requirements of the housing. The design of the pumps allows for suction from depths up to 8m.
Areas of application of the units:
organization of irrigation and irrigation in suburban areas with intake from an open source (barrel, pond, river);
drainage of the cellars at greater depths of flooding;
firefighting;
pumping water from swimming pools, storage tanks, etc.
Submersible pumps
The device is fully or partially lowered into the pumped medium. The water is sucked in through the inlet opening in the bottom of the pump housing, which is closed by a strainer. The motors of the submersible models are reliably protected against liquids and impurities. The pumps are available in a sealed casing and can be used in wells, boreholes, and mines dozens of meters deep.
A distinctive feature of submersible devices for pumping water is a float switch. It does not allow the electric motor to start if the liquid level is below the limit mark. Protection against "dry" run significantly extends the life of the water pump.
Scope of application of submersible models:
organization of drinking water supply;
irrigation and irrigation with intake from a well and boreholes;
drainage of basements and flooded areas over a large territory.
At stationary installation, the submersible pump tries to lower as much as possible to the bottom, so that when the water level falls, the protection system does not work. The devices are operated for a long time without being taken out to the surface.
Peculiarities of pumps for dirty water
When pumping media contaminated with solid or fibrous inclusions, special equipment is used. Pentax S.p.A. offers a whole line of FORAS and MARLY pumps for such conditions.
Household drainage pumps. Sufficiently light, compact medium-power devices in durable plastic housing. Such pumps can be transferred from one place to another, which makes them popular not only among homeowners but also with various repair and construction organizations. The equipment used for pumping liquids with small solid and fibrous inclusions (sand, silt).
Scope of domestic drainage pumps:
pumping of surface and groundwater, irrigation;
drainage of basements;
drainage of open swimming pools, etc.
Sewage and drainage pumps. Pumps of this type allow pumping out water with large solid particles: chips, leaves, hair, and other debris contained in sewage. Structurally, these are the same drainage devices, but with higher technical and operational characteristics. A cutting wheel is installed in the pump's body. It grinds feces and other large impurities. Equipment of this type is used where the capabilities of simple drainage models is not enough.
Area of application of sewage pumps:
pumping domestic wastewater;
cleaning of drainage wells;
removal of sewage with high sand and sludge content.
Some elements of pumps are in direct contact with the pumped medium. They are made of corrosion-resistant steel or cast iron. The impeller of such pumps can function as a macerator if such is absent in the model.
Which pump to choose
In order for the equipment to work effectively in specific conditions, before buying, determine several parameters.
Type of unit. The choice of surface or submersible unit depends on the water level in the source. For example, for wells and wells with drinking water, where the liquid level does not fall below 100 cm, choose a submersible model. A surface pump is necessary when the source is shallow.
The nature of the pumped water. Drinking water supply will cope with any device. If there are fibrous and solid inclusions or silt in the pumped medium, pay attention to the characteristics of the pump. For each model, the concentration and maximum size of the inclusions in the water are specified. If there is a risk of getting sand in the structure of the unit, give preference to submersible models - surface models are more sensitive to the indicator of purity. For water with higher salinity, stainless steel pump models are chosen.
Media Temperature. Most pumps are designed for the intake of cold water and sewage. The temperature above +40 ° C for these models is considered critical. With a hot medium, they do not work longer than a few minutes. FORAS has special pumps for hot water supply.
Performance. Assess the level of water consumption at the facility. If it is a summer cottage or a house with a small number of tenants, the maximum capacity will be in demand only during peak hours in the morning and evening. In this case, it is not necessary to overpay for a high-performance pump, the device will be enough for 120 l / min. To meet the needs of an enterprise, office building, or apartment building drinking water, choose more powerful devices with a supply of up to 240 l / min.
Connection to electricity. There are pumps that have enough power from a household outlet, and some will require a three-phase connection. If it is planned to use the unit permanently, electricians recommend in any case to allocate for it a separate branch in the electrical wiring. This will reduce the likelihood of overload at the start of the pump, and will protect other connected equipment from unwanted breakdowns and short circuits.
